Sean Sullivan

Club tribute

It is with great sadness that the Club has learnt of the death of Under 10 father, Sean Sullivan, who died suddenly at his home from a heart attack, just hours after helping out at training.

Simeon Barnes, chairman of the Mini section sent an email the following week to all under 10 parents expressing the sadness felt.

''Our lead first aider since as long as I can remember, Sean has been an integral part of our age group and will be deeply missed by all of us.

Always with a smile on his face, a high vis jacket on his back and an ice pack in his hand, he had a way about him that meant injured players started feeling better before he even treated them; just by seeing his face and hearing his reassuring words as he ran on to the pitch.

I have one vivid memory of him at a festival last year where we were very short on first-aiders and Sean was covering 3 x pitches that were nowhere near each other; all by himself.  It was a cold day and the injuries whilst not serious were numerous.  He ran from pitch to pitch, treating bumps, bruises and cuts always with that infectious smile, never complaining.  He couldn’t have run any more if he was playing rugby that day!  For anyone that knew Sean, stories like this were the norm for him.

His volunteering and helping nature, extended far beyond Cobham RFC to helping out at Cricket, School, Beavers and many other places.  The community at large will surely feel the loss of such a great man.

Sean was a proud dad and loving husband and our thoughts and prayers are with Helen, Alex and Ruth at this time.

Sean’s funeral will be held at Sacred Heart Parish Church, Cobham on 27th September at 10.30am.  Afterwards there will be a service at Randall’s’ Park Crematorium for family and close friends only please, followed by a wake at Cobham Rugby Club.

We will be wearing club ties to the funeral to honour Sean’s service to the club and we invite those players and parents that wish to, to join us in this tradition.

The players playing in the match tomorrow will wear black armbands in Sean’s honour''

Prior to the lunch and first XV game against the CS 1863 RFC the following weekend a minutes silence was observed for Sean as a tribute to a wonderful father and volunteer.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Helen, Alex and Ruth from all at Cobham RFC.
