Rina Ives wins Regional Sport Award

Cobham RFC Satellite club success

Sport England and Active Surrey recently issued the following press release

Rina Ives, 15, of Fullbrook School has been named the South East Satellite Club Participant of the Year in recognition of her outstanding commitment to taking part in community sport. Satellite clubs are extensions of community sports clubs, using different venues such as schools or colleges to offer sport to young people who may not be regularly active, or lack the confidence to join a sports club.

Rina attended the rugby satellite club at Fullbrook School delivered by Cobham RFC after watching her sister take part, since then she has not missed a session. Having not taken part in sport prior to joining the Satellite Club, Rina has started growing in confidence and now plays for Cobham RFC. Club Coach

Vicky Alexander said: “Satellite Clubs enable children to try a sport under no pressure and in an environment that supports enjoyment. One such participant is Rina Ives who has learnt new skills, met new people, developed her interpersonal skills and has increased her confidence. She has also chosen to continue playing rugby and has joined Cobham RFC.”

Rina is one of over 2000 young people, taking part in over 105 Satellite Clubs at 53 different schools and colleges in Surrey. Nationally, two thirds of the young people benefiting from the clubs report that they would not be playing sport in their own time if it were not for their satellite club.
