Saturday 20th May 2017 saw over 360 members and guests make their way to Cobham RFC for the annual Summer Ball.
In true Bond style, the organisers had arranged for a selection of Bond style cars to be assembled in front of the magnificent marquee sponsored by InsideOutside Marquees. These included an original concourse condition Aston Martin DB4, an Aston Martin drop top and even a Porsche. Their owners were present and only too willing to discuss the relative merits of their wonderful cars.
Entering the marquee, guests were greeted with a glass of bubbly, before the drapes were opened to reveal the stunning inner sanctum which had been turned into a truly nightclub themed space with starry lights set into a black sky and with the stunning table decorations, the whole effect was breathtaking.
Proceedings, in the capable hands of club member and MC Stewart Worth, started with a quick heads and tails which saw the winner presented with a giant 007 Tequila sunrise cocktail for 10 guests .
A delightful three course meal was efficiently served by our caterers Vanilla Bean and our events staff under the direction of Jacky Harris and Courtney Sargood ensured that there was no shortage of excellent wines.
Chairman Steve Heard spoke briefly of the need for more volunteers to come forward to help the club manage it’s future expectations and then assisted by our President Lionel Frewin proceeded with the presentation this years Value The Volunteer Awards.
These were presented to the following recipients:-
Presidents Award Simeon Barnes
Club Members Award Jonny Payne
Mini Award Stephen Spick
Youth Award Gavin Warner
Senior Award Callum Stott
The awards were followed by the fundraising auction and what an auction it was. The extraordinary talents of regular auctioneer Chris Mills, who maintained his usual side-splitting banter throughout the whole event, saw prizes ranging from a trip to Bangkok, to a Porsche track day knocked down at regular intervals, raising substantial funds for the club
The auction was followed by great music provided by Fully Funktional ‘LIVE’ which saw the dance floor full to bursting for the rest of the evening. Those not on the dance floor were to be found sampling the roulette wheels and gaming tables which were very busy with wanabee James Bonds.
Huge thanks go to the Ball Committee headed up by Verle Al Jenabi, Kerry Lewis and Jo Roberts not fogetting Jacky Harris and Courtney Sargood and to all our sponsors and auction prize providers.
This was a truly magnificent Cobham Summer Ball.
